OPEN HEART SURGERY
12 OCT – 15 DEC 2013

For Open Heart Surgery, The Moving Museum explored a selection of London’s most urgent voices through solo presentations from 31 artists and more than 200 multimedia artworks.

Partnering with The Vinyl Factory, The Moving Museum occupied 40,000 sq ft of a sprawling Brutalist building at 180 The Strand which has been derelict for nearly a decade, one block away from Somerset House and overlooking the Southbank.

28 brand new installations were created and several artists were commissioned to create immersive, project-based artworks that involved audience participation.

The exhibition was accompanied by a full and varied events programme. Partnering with The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), The Moving Museum hosted a series of Salons as well as a GLAMROCK disco by Mathew Smith and a pool party in an installation by Alistair Frost.

A special dinner for 120 people brought together London Young Patrons, artists and Exhibition Partners The Vinyl Factory.

The show opened to an audience of 3000 guests on the Saturday night before Frieze week and was listed in the official programme for Frieze Art Fair, welcoming 12,000 visitors over the two month period.
